about

In 2020 founder Marko Shipley learned about the remarkable seed of the California bay laurel tree, known as bay nut or peppernut, whose taste resembles coffee and chocolate. It took no time before he wanted to share its joys with the local community, and Tree Folk was born.

Tree Folk seeks to connect people to their local forests, to elevate land stewardship, and to honor the traditional foods and foodways of Native Californians. That’s why we donate 2% of all revenues to Native food sovereignty and food security organizers, and work with Native food entrepreneurs and purveyors in the region.
